London innovation forum

The London Experience was devised to bring together the senior design and marketing directors of leading brand-led companies based in London to share ideas and expertise.

The inaugural meeting of this innovation forum was held at the RCA on 1 July 2008, just before the College’s Innovation Night.

A number of sectors were represented, including automotive, household goods, high street retailing, fashion and FMCG as well as the delivery organisations for the London 2012 Olympics.

The first London Experience forum addressed two discussion themes. 'Designing for Customer Experience' focused on how design can more effectively create a 'joined-up' experience for consumers.

'Sustaining a London Design and Innovation Capability' looked at the practicalities of retaining creative staff, staying innovative and running a satellite studio - the upsides and downsides of London as an innovation base.

Speakers included Clive Grinyer, Director of Customer Experience at Cisco Systems, and David Godber, Deputy Chief Executive of the Design Council, and until recently Design Director at Nissan's London design studio.

Think London, which partnered InnovationRCA in The London Experience pilot, is the foreign direct investment agency for London. It connects international businesses to London, helping them set up, succeed and grow.
