Hong Kong Design Challenge
The 48-Hour Inclusive Design Challenge in Hong Kong was held from 28-30 August 2008 as part of the Accessible Cities project developed by the British Council China and East Asia region. The aim was to raise the importance of inclusive design as a tool for business advantage and innovation by involving the disabled community as a vital part of the design process. Its title was Living Together, Innovating Together.
The Hong Kong Design Challenge was organised by the RCA with British Council Asia to mark the 60th anniversary of the British Council in Hong Kong.
The RCA’s Challenge Workshops progamme is an internationally renowned model of knowledge transfer to industry, featuring inclusive design techniques as a tool for business innovation. Led by Julia Cassim, Senior Research Fellow in the RCA Helen Hamlyn Centre, there have also been Challenge Workshops in Norway, Japan, Israel and the UK.
Collaborators in Hong Kong included the
School of Design, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Hong Kong Design Centre. Inter-disciplinary teams of designers from Hong Kong, mainland China (Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou), Korea and the ASEAN region were each led by senior designers from the UK.
